This page brings together important disclosures, institutional information, and student rights in one place for easy access.

Accreditation and Legal Status

The American University of Greece (AUG) Global Campus is a nonprofit institution of higher education, authorized by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education to confer undergraduate and graduate degrees. Headquartered in Boston, AUG functions as an independently incorporated affiliate of The American College of Greece (ACG)—a historic institution that has delivered educational programs in Greece since 1923.
ACG was first accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (now the New England Commission of Higher Education, or NECHE) in 1981, becoming the first U.S. institution abroad to achieve this distinction. Building on that foundation, AUG received institutional accreditation from NECHE in 2023. This accreditation formally recognizes AUG as a U.S. degree-granting institution and includes ACG’s operations in Greece through a validating agreement—ensuring consistent academic standards and quality across both institutions.
In 2022, AUG was approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education to offer its own degree programs, including those delivered on-site in Athens and fully online worldwide. In 2024, AUG launched the AUG Global Campus to expand access to high-quality, flexible, and fully online degree programs rooted in the values of American higher education and ACG’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence.

Important Note for Students Considering Relocation:
If you are an enrolled student and you relocate to a U.S. state where AUG Global Campus is not authorized to offer distance education, your ability to continue your studies may be affected. We encourage all students to notify the Office of Partnerships and Online Support prior to relocating to a different state, so that we can advise you on how relocation may impact your enrollment status.

State Authorization for Distance Education

The American University of Greece (AUG) Global Campus is committed to meeting all state authorization requirements to offer online degree programs to students residing in the United States.

AUG Global Campus is authorized by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education to grant undergraduate and graduate degrees and is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Our fully online programs are offered worldwide, with no in-person, clinical, or field placement components required for completion.

As an institution based in Athens, Greece, AUG Global Campus is considered a foreign institution by the U.S. Department of Education and is not eligible to participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. AUG Global Campus is not a participant in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).

We are actively pursuing the necessary approvals and exemptions in individual U.S. states and territories to ensure that we can serve students in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Authorization requirements vary by state, and enrollment eligibility is subject to state-specific determinations.

If you reside in the United States and are considering enrolling in an AUG Global Campus program, we encourage you to review your state’s requirements and contact our office with any questions about your eligibility. As our authorization status evolves, we will update this page to reflect states where we are authorized to enroll students.

American University of Greece Global Campus Graduate Credit Transfer Policy Effective Fall 2025

1. Credit Transfer Policy for the MA in Learning Design and Technology (LDT)

  • Credit transfer from previously attended graduate degree programs of accredited institutions may be allowed at a maximum limit of 9 credits and will be examined on an individual basis.
  • Credit may be granted for graduate-level courses taken at accredited institutions.
  • The Program Coordinator, in consultation with the respective instructor, must determine that the course is sufficiently equivalent in content, learning outcomes, and credit value.
  • The cumulative index (CI) of the course to be transferred must be at least 3.00 (or its equivalent).
  • Courses accepted for transfer do not carry grades and do not affect the student's cumulative index at the College.

2. Credit Transfer Policy for Other Graduate Programs (Global MBA, MS in Cybersecurity, MS in Data Science)

To ensure consistency across programs while supporting academic integrity and student mobility, the following policy is proposed for all other graduate programs offered through the Global Campus:
Transfer Credit Limit: A maximum of 6 graduate credits may be accepted for transfer into a Global Campus graduate program. Exceptions may be considered for programs with more than 36 credits in total.
Eligibility and Conditions:

  • Courses must have been completed at a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution at the graduate level.
  • A minimum grade of B (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) must have been earned in each course.
  • Courses must be equivalent in content, credit hours, and learning outcomes to the courses offered in the respective AUG Global Campus program.
  • Courses must have been completed within the last five years from the date of enrollment in the AUG program.
  • Final approval is determined by the Program Director, in consultation with the lead faculty or instructor for the corresponding AUG course.
  • No grades will appear on the AUG transcript for transferred courses, and these courses will not be included in the student’s GPA calculation.

Process:

  • Students must submit an official transcript, course syllabi, and a transfer credit request form at the time of admission or no later than the end of their first term of enrollment.
  • All requests will be evaluated on an individual basis.

3. Undergraduate Transfer Credit Policy

American University of Greece – Global Campus

The American University of Greece (AUG) Global Campus welcomes transfer applications from students who have completed undergraduate coursework at other accredited colleges and universities. To ensure academic integrity and to support student progression within our newly launched online degree programs, the following transfer credit policy will apply beginning with the inaugural undergraduate cohort in Fall 2025.

Maximum Transfer Credit Allowance

  • A maximum of 36 U.S. semester credits may be accepted in transfer toward a baccalaureate degree at AUG Global Campus.
    • Of these, no more than 24 credits may be at the lower-division level (equivalent to U.S. 100-200 level or UK Level 4).
    • No more than 12 credits may be accepted at the upper-intermediate level (equivalent to U.S. 300-level or UK Level 5).
    • No transfer credit will be awarded at the advanced (capstone or final-year) level (equivalent to U.S. 400-level or UK Level 6).

This policy ensures that all AUG Global Campus students complete a significant portion of their degree with us, allowing for alignment with institutional learning outcomes and access to our signature learning experiences.

Eligibility and Conditions

  • Only coursework completed at institutions that are regionally or nationally accredited (or their international equivalents) will be considered.
  • A minimum grade of “C” (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) is required for any course to be eligible for transfer.
  • Transfer credit is not awarded for:
    • College-wide English requirements unless coursework was completed at an institution where the language of instruction is English.
    • Foreign language courses in a student’s native or heritage language, unless focused on literature or advanced analysis.
    • Non-credit bearing coursework, including continuing education or professional training, unless assessed and approved through a recognized prior learning evaluation process.

Approval Process

  • Transfer credit evaluations are conducted by the academic program director in consultation with the Office of Advising and Records.
  • Final approval rests with the Registrar’s Office, which maintains an official record of all accepted credits.
  • Students will be notified of transfer credit decisions through the AUG student information system.

Note for Fall 2025 Applicants

As the AUG Global Campus launches its undergraduate programs in Fall 2025, course offerings will be introduced in phases. Students with significant prior credit should consult early with an academic advisor to determine degree applicability and to ensure timely program completion.

  • At least two years of full-time secondary or postsecondary education in an English-speaking country or an institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
  • Applicants must provide official transcripts and, if necessary, documentation from the institution confirming English as the language of instruction.

For applicants who do not meet the minimum scores but are close, a case-by-case review may be conducted, particularly for those with strong academic backgrounds.
