History and Mission
The American University of Greece (AUG) Global Campus is built on a 150-year legacy of bringing American educational excellence to Greece and beyond. It began in 1875 when American missionaries from Massachusetts founded a school for girls in Smyrna, Asia Minor. This bold initiative laid the foundation for what would later become The American College of Greece (ACG). After the events of 1922, the institution relocated to Athens, continuing its mission of "Not to be served, but to serve" (non ministrari sed ministrare).
In 2021, the establishment of The American University of Greece (AUG) in Massachusetts marked a significant milestone in our history. AUG plays a crucial role in offering programs in the U.S., validating ACG's degrees, and preparing for potential changes in Greek higher education legislation.
The launch of The AUG Global Campus in 2024 brings our journey full circle, reconnecting with our American roots while leveraging our unique position at the crossroads of American and Hellenic educational traditions.
